Flexible, National

Position Description

Executive Summary

Do you aspire to work with a team of passionate, mission-driven search professionals who partner with some of the most impactful organizations of our time? Do you believe that solving complex problems takes an intersectional approach? Do you enjoy building relationships one on one, but also making network connections that amplify impact? Talent Citizen is looking for you.

Talent Citizen, a mission-driven executive search firm that taps into the nation’s best thinkers in civil, corporate, and non-profit sectors in their pursuit of positive social impact, seeks a Senior Associate with a successful track record in the development and recruitment of diverse and exceptional candidate pools to work remotely on a full-time, or contract basis with our national team. We work collaboratively with a range of mission-driven organizations, from high-impact non-profits to national higher education, healthcare, philanthropy and advocacy organizations.

Your work will include taking a deep dive with client organizations to understand their current state, the challenges they wish to push past, the impact they envision, and finding leaders who will champion change. With a design thinking approach, you’ll explore networks of professionals ranging from those deep in the center of their fields as well as those innovating at the edges. Your work is a blend of understanding organizational dynamics, co-designing strategic and persuasive messages, conducting talent-focused research and analyzing trends from the field. Critically, you’ll be a curious and robust networker, approaching candidates with rigorous yet balanced evaluation, and building authentic relationships while driving projects to successful outcomes.

Experimentation, shared insights and learning are at the core of our work. The Senior Associate will bring creativity in identifying and engaging candidates. The ability to adeptly learn new concepts and communicate them to candidates and clients is a must. Talent Citizen associates participate from search discovery and strategic outreach through candidate assessment, client review, and referencing. The Senior Associate is expected to maintain continuous communication with Talent Citizen consultants, clients, and candidates.

Candidates will have at least three to five years of experience in the identification, engagement and assessment of robust and diverse candidate pools at director-level and above. Experience managing multiple projects in an executive search firm is ideal, although in-house organizational leadership strategy and recruitment is also of interest. Preference will be given to candidates with professional exposure to nonprofit and/or mission-driven organizations, or to social impact initiatives. Associates will engage in a range of searches across philanthropy, higher education, advocacy and social impact, so flexibility, a growth mindset, a collaborative and client-service orientation, exceptional judgement, and communications skills are required. Occasional travel for client meetings and conferences is expected.

Why Talent Citizen:
- Talent Citizen works with organizations across the nation who are leaning into how to solve complex social issues at the local, national, and global levels. Our team has worked collaboratively with a range of organizations, from regional non-profits with high-impact direct services programs to complex national organizations across higher education, healthcare, philanthropy, and advocacy.
- We geek out at the opportunity to push learning and practice in the course of a search – stretching both our clients, our placements, ourselves, and the field. We also like to grow with our clients as they encounter new challenges, over 80% of our portfolio is with repeat client organizations, or hiring managers taking on new opportunities. Our clients value our high touch and transparent communication, and our candidates and networks know we want to tee them up for success.
- We are committed to putting equity at the center of our work. We take a design thinking approach to networking that reaches across boundaries of sector and discipline to bring our clients the diverse perspectives and expertise that are needed for the change they want to affect. In 2018 alone, 87% of Talent Citizen’s placements were female, 57% were diversity placements, and 50% of all placements were women of color.
- We don’t stop at the outreach - beyond building diverse pools, we work with clients to challenge organizational barriers, unconscious bias, and interrogate our own findings as well as imbalances in the field. Talent Citizen is a proud investment partner to the Equitable Evaluation Initiative, which seeks to shift the paradigm of evaluation, exploring how it can be a tool of and for equity in the social change space.
